Ararat Farm Newsletter December 2022

Hello Everyone,

Merry early Christmas to you all! It’s hard to believe that Christmas is really just around the corner. For us at Ararat it feels like we blinked and it’s here. It has been a very wet December for all of us here. Long days of indoor time because of rain has been much needed. The creek is high and both springs are flowing well now and ponds are filling. So many blessings that also make us appreciate the sunshine as well. There has not been a tremendous amount of activities but let’s dive in and finish out 2022.

Summary for the month of December:

  • The cows on winter grazing

  • Big pigs move out

  • Finish out Rifle Season strong

  • Little Farm Hand Adventures

The Herd

The herd is doing well this wet winter season. They have started up the ridge grazing the last bit of grass left for the season. So they have been well out of flooding areas. Thankfully the creek is high but we have not had flooding thus far. The cows are doing quite well on the last bits of grazing left. We have been supplementing them with hay to stretch the grazing and provide them with more nutrition mixed with the shorter grass they are grazing.

The Pigs

This month is Winter Pork Deliveries. So the big pigs went for their one bad day. All but one any way. They loaded pretty well other then one managed to launch over the side of the corral. Needless to say he is going to be staying a little longer with all the little piggies. The little piggies are all doing well and have been staying in the fence which is wonderful!

Final Week of Rifle Season

The first week of December was the last week of rifle season. This was partly why a first of the month email did not get out this month. We had some hunters in for that week and finished out the season pretty well. Not all hunters were successful this years but we are very thankful for God’s providence from His wildlife this year.

Little Farm Hand Adventures

Little Farm Hand has grown up so much over this year. It is a joyful blessing and yet sad at the same time. Watching the baby grow into such a big girl. Still loving to play with kitties yet loves to go for long hikes on the farm and work with the animals. Now she is even undoing wire off posts with cow fencing. We are so proud of our Little Farm Hand!

Huge Thanks To You

Well that pretty much wraps up this month and the rest of the year. We can’t end this year with out recognizing the importance that you all bring. We so appreciate the opportunity you all give us to provide you with quality meats. We thank you so much for your support and following this years adventures and being a part of the striving goal to steward the land the Lord gives us to tend. Thank you so much for your huge part. Until the next year have a blessed holiday season!!
