September 2026

September 2026

And like that September blew away!  Even though it is late we still want to give a September update.  It has been a very dry month compared to August.  Dry and hot.  We have been grazing the cows still and have not had to supplement hay yet which has been a huge blessing!  The ponds have dried through the month and the springs have slowed down some as well.  We are just needing to make sure we are being mindful of where the cows are.  But let's get started on the update.

Summary of September:

  • A little surprise!
  • Sorting for Fall Beef
  • Scrappy Pigs!
  • A little R&R
  • Chores with Little Farm Hand

The Herd

The herd has been grazing very well through the summer even on the dryer months.  We have had to fight with a bad briar growth this year due to grazing or bushhogging too short at during the spring.  Even with that the Lord has blessed th fields with good growth that the cows were able to graze well without having to supplement with hay.  We did this month even have a little surprise with the last calf born for the year!

Fall Beef Sorting

This month we also sorted out the cows for this fall's beef order which has gone smoother every time.  The cows did very well and we now have a very small and comfortable herd to go into winter with!

The Pigs

The piggies are huge, lazy piggies.  They are scrappy piggies enjoying the canning scraps and garden clean out.  This month has been dry enough that they have needed some piggy spas.

Some R&R time...

We finally got some time away from the farm and enjoyed some time of rest and resetting.  We are so thankful when we can get time away so we can enjoy the time back on the farm more.

Little Farm Hand

Little Farm Hand has been such a big help this year.  It has been such a blessing to watch her grow and find her place on the farm and in the jobs that have to be done. Her biggest accomplishment this year has been being able to reel up the cow fence reels!

That's All Folks

Well, that pretty much wraps up September.  It's crazy we are already in October.  This is always one of the most beautiful and pleasant seasons but always the most busy and is the one month that seems to blaze right by.  We have a very busy October ahead of us, so we want to be intentional about taking one day at a time and marvel in God's beauty He created as the summer comes to a close and the preparation for winter sets in.
