Hello Everyone! Welcome Fall! It has been warm but we are enjoying the hints of autumn coming on. With cooler mornings and the touch of color we can feel it in the air. It has been dry for the last several weeks after such a rainy August. We were so grateful to the Lord for the rain because it has made the grass grow very well on the ridge. Well, let get started with this month’s update!
Summary for September:
-
Herd late summer grazing
-
Bison mostly behaving
-
Happy Piggies
-
Corral Mostly Complete
-
Little Farm Hand Adventures
The Herd
We are very quickly moving into late summer grazing and early fall grazing. We are currently grazing the cows through the bottoms and feeding them hay to put good trampling and nutrients on the field as well as stock pile the ridge for winter grazing. The cows are doing pretty well on it and enjoy chasing bales down as they roll.
The Bison
So, other then one incident, the bison have been staying with the herd in their paddock for over a month! They have been respecting fences and come close enough to be rather personal. Still won’t let us pet them though.
The Pigs
The piggies still don’t reveal themselves much at all. Just having the 5 big ones left they pretty much have their own routine of come when they want so long as we keep them fed. It’s hard to catch them out to say hello.
The Corral
We had to some hard long days but we managed to get the corral completed enough to a point that we were able to sort the cows for fall beef and do some tagging on the herd. It was a lot of work and a long day of sorting but by God’s grace we got it all done much faster and smoother then if we had the old corral.
Little Farm Hand Adventures
We have to end with Little Farm Hand because, truly, what would we do without her. She is slowly coming into her own as a farm helper. She rides the 4-wheeler, helps with fencing, feeds the horses, gathers eggs, just to name a few! We lover her so much and enjoy watching her in all her adventures.
That’s A Wrap
As the summer comes to a close and we try to whined down for fall and winter we are reflecting on the very full year we have had. There have been some big challenges that the Lord has lay in our path which He continues to carry us through. We praise Him for His guidance to see us through and trust Him in the days to come. Thank you for visiting with us today and we hope to see you again next email. Have a wonderful rest of your day!
