Hey Yall! We hope everyone has had a beautiful May. We have had a full month in May with lots of crazy weather to work with and cows not staying in fences as well as Spring Beef in full swing. May is one of the busiest months of the year with having chickens on the ground moving daily as well as rotation grazing the herd fully now. We are also a vendor at a local Farmer’s Market now for this summer which is an exciting new way we are hoping to reach out to the local market and meet you all face to face through the summer! There is so much to bring you up to date on so lets get started…
Summary for May:
-
Herd on Adventures
-
Piggies Enjoying the freedom
-
Pastured Chickens start their One Bad Day
-
Farmer’s Market
-
New Mousers
The Herd
The cows…and bison…have been doing very well. They are very spoiled with their daily moves and have enjoyed the lush spring salad bar of grass we have been so graciously blessed with between the warm sunny and rainy weather. The only problem is the ungrateful bovines have constantly escaped their fences and tramped through the fields even coming all the way up to the house on the top of the ridge! Needless to say its no long just where the buffalo roam…
The Pigs
The piggies last we updated had recently moved to their new field. They have thoroughly enjoyed the foraging and freedom of the woodland pasture. They are slowly growing and will hopefully be reaching the blossoming growth where they get really big soon.
The Chickens
The Pastured Chickens are doing extremely well this spring. The Lord has blessed us with very healthy birds that are doing so well and getting big really fast. The end of this month we hauled half of them for their one bad day to be whole birds. We took them early to keep them at a more manageable size for all of you (since our last ones were like mini turkeys…). The rest will go in another 2 weeks and will be processed into cuts and we will be offering select pastured chicken cuts!
The Farmer’s Market
Last but not least we are so excited to be apart of a local farmer’s market this year. We have considered it in the past and with the items we now offer and the desire to meet with all of you on a regular bases in person we wanted to give a farmer’s market a try this year. We are currently featured at the Big Stone Gap Farmer’s Market every other Saturday of the month from 9am to 1pm. We would love for you to come visit us!
