Hello Everyone!
We hope this post finds you all well and having an amazing start to your summer. We are having a pretty decent start and a very HOT start to summer so far. This last week of June we are reaching the 90s so we are needing to be wise with the timing in which we are working outdoors and making sure we are staying hydrated! The animals are not too phased so long as they have shade and water. Checking their water is vital right now. Any way Things are moving along smoothly so let’s get started!

THe Herd
This month the cows (and buffalo) have been grazing through the remainder of the ridge and have come down to the bottoms. The lower fields have all gotten so tall and thick with all the rains we kept having that their is a lush salad bar of grazing for the herd. We are starting twice a day moves now which helps get better impact and allows the cows fresher grazing and makes them gain weight better. There are still a few days in which the timing doesn’t work but we are doing the best we can. We have had a few more calves this month and awaiting a few more to wrap up our calving season.
The Pigs
The piggies have thoroughly enjoyed all the rain we were getting over the last month and a half. They have several self made ponds in the fields with which they constantly lounge in. They are growing very well and hopefully will make good size pigs in the remaining weeks they have.
Where Do Buffalo Roam?
So the question is…really where do buffalo roam? Well, for the month of May they roam very happily with the South Poll her on Ararat Farm in the poly wire paddocks set for daily or twice daily moves. For several days in the month of June they decided the grass was greener in the next paddock and then took it a step further and went to the neighbors property, just to be that way. We shifted things around and have them back on the farm and separated from the main herd to retrain them to poly wire. The Lord always has a way of humbling us when we think we know what we are doing..!
Big Boy Frisky
It’s been a while since we did a Frisky update. As many of you know we had to bottle feed a calf this year and he has done very well. Well enough, that it was time for him to graduate and move to the main herd. He was not a fan and doesn’t appreciate his bottles so few and far between but he is doing very well and staying in the poly wire after some training. He is like a big puppy though when we are fencing.
Farmer’s Market
For those of you who are coming to the Big Stone Farmer’s Market we appreciate you so much! Without you all there we would not be able to come. It has been fun to visit with customers in person and so product in a way that we simply can’t through the website or even at drops. We are really enjoying this new venture and have included every other Thursday to the schedule. We will see where the Lord leads from there!
