Hello Everyone!
What a busy month it has been. Ararat’s manager is recently back from a fire detail in Arizona and while he was away things have been very busy. Hence, the late update…again. Things have continued on their normal track during the last month. We gained a few more pigs in prep for Summer Pork which is right around the corner. The herd continues grazing through waist high grass during the start of these summer months. Also, did we mention the heat…what a hot June it has been. Well, we’ll get started on the update now.
The Herd
At the beginning of the month we loaded up the bulls from a neighboring farmer and hauled them back to the farm. They were shall we say ecstatic to return to all their ladies. We have several bulls from the last few years calves that will be steered so and used for up coming fall and spring beef. In the mean time we have the joy of fixing paddocks that pushy bulls knock down while they work…
The Pigs
This month we got 4 more big pigs. For some reason this year’s Summer pork pigs have not grown well at all. We haven’t been able to figure out why so in order to ensure we have the quantity for all of you we purchased a few more. They are big lazy piggies who we are trying to train to a call. The other 12 on the other hand…they won’t leave you alone. The moment they are called they come running to say hello!
New Kitties
We had new kittens who were all so adorable. One of our cats had a litter and then we adopted 2 more. Sadly the 3 from the litter didn’t make it but the 2 adopted kittens are thriving. Hopefully they will be useful.
Little Farm Hand Help
As Little Farm Hand grows she becomes more and more involved in daily chores. While Matt was away all hands were called for some early mornings to pick up fence and set up fence before it got too hot. Little Farm Hand help as much as she was able.
