January 2026

January 2026

And like that January of 2026 is almost over! It is crazy how quickly some years get started and move along. It’s actually not been very busy this month on the farm. We have been doing a lot of maintenance on equipment and waterlines…still. We have had a few warmer days and then drop down to the teens which has been keeping us on our toes trying to make sure all animals have water before lines freeze up. We have had a few changes this month which we are excited to get started with…

Summary for January:

  • New addition to the herd

  • Bisons’ One Bad Day

  • Fixing fences with Little Farm Hand

The Herd

The herd has continued to graze and have hay through the month of January. We are on the last bit of grazing we have left so the duration of winter the herd will be on hay rolled down the ridge. We prefer to feed hay this way during winter to get a different effect of trampling. The cows trampling hay into the dormant grown will embed carbon in the soil, prepping the ground for good spring nutrients.

A New Addition

We strive very hard to keep our cows on a breeding schedule that does not allow calve to be born during winter. Apparently someone did not get the memo… This little guy was born this month bright frisky and ready to take on his new life. So far he seems to be weathering the temps okay. A good mama cow makes all the difference!

Bisons’ One Bad day

The day finally came for the bison to be sorted and hauled off the farm. We praise the Lord for making their one bad day go so smoothly. They sorted well and loaded even better which make things so much better for us and the animals. Be keeping and eye out for delicious bison in the near future. It will be the last for a while!

Fixing Fence with Little Farm Hand

There are some fences on the farm that don’t have to be fixed often but when they do it’s a pretty big ordeal simply because of location. As Little Farm Hand continues to grow she is apart of so many more of those repair days. This particular day she was much help and even managed to get herself stuck on a log…life is always an interesting adventure with Little Farm Hand!

That's A Wrap

Winter months are often times hard to write about because it usually is the quieter season (on purpose). It’s the resting and planning season on the farm when we talk about goals for the year and reflect on the previous year. We thank you for sticking with us and ask that you bare with us yet again on another website change coming up. Thank you for your patience and for taking the time to visit with us today. We hope you have a blessed rest of your day!
