Hello Everyone!
We hope your summer has been fun filled and blessed. It’s hard to believe that it is almost over. Everything on the farm has continued to move along nicely. We have had so much rain this summer which is definitely not normal but is such a blessing! This summer we were able to graze the herd up the ridge twice with in 30 days because the grass grew so well. This month had it’s fill of events and as we come into fall it will only get busier. Let’s get started…
The Herd
The herd is doing very well this summer. With the abundance of grass growth this summer the cattle a fat and sleek! We gained a few more head the beginning of the month to add to Fall Beef which is literally right around the corner. We haven’t had anymore calves but the ones we do have are goofy little things and already trying to graze some.
The Pigs
As you know we did our Summer pork back in July and of those pigs we kept one back that was just too small to take. We have called him Piglet (really surprise…) and he has been pretty lonely. We recently got 12 little pigs in prep for Winter pork. They are small and so pretty and Lord willing will make excellent Winter pork when acorns come into season!
An Eventful Day…
As some may have known from our Instagram account, our farm jeep wrecked this month. Matt was on a fire detail in Montana and as usual I (wife Lauren) and Little Farm Hand maintain the farm while he is away. One of the mornings as we headed down the field to move the cows the breaks and the steering both went out. By God’s grace He enabled me to think clearly to grab Little Farm Hand and jump out of the jeep before it flew and rolled into the pond and was pretty much totaled. Praise the Lord to His mercies that are new everyday. Little Farm Hand was unharmed and other then scared was fine. I had some good bruises and jarred pretty good otherwise was fine physically. Praise the Lord for my In-Laws who live right down the road and are my go to while Matt is away and my sister who helped with Little Farm Hand so I could finish chores. His mercy and Grace is sufficient and the Lord is sovereign over all especially when we don’t realize it!
